Our first real morning in Vienna! We got up at NINE, ooooOOooh! Yeah, I know, big accomplishment but with late nights while on holiday it is hard to be motivated in the morning. This morning we had the flea market and the city center of Vienna calling to us though, so off we went on the buses/trams/trains. Vienna's public transportation is lovely because you buy a ticket for the whole day and you have unlimited use of all buses, trams and trains--which is great when you get distracted from counting and accidentally get off at the wrong stop and have to backtrack. The market was really fun and once again I was wishing for a bigger backpack to take it all with me. Poking around all the neat old stuff I found a cool alarm clock that looked nautical and had a good heavy weight to it. It's one of those kinds that you have to wind manually too! Christi found a very beautiful pendant that looked quite old.

After cappuccinos and some Austrian chocolate cake, Julia cut us loose again in the middle of the city and we were left to wander in search of entertainment. It wasn't hard to find and we spent the day poking around expensive shops like Burberry and wondering why someone would spend 18,000 euro on a mustard-colored alligator skin bag, but getting chills just holding it. We also watched some street performers for awhile because their slow motion dancing and fighting made us laugh. It was a great place to people watch, but the cold quickly sunk in and we escaped it by ducking into a restaurant Julia had pointed out. It seemed very fancy with waiters in full suits complete with smug expressions. The food was good though and we enjoyed tomato and mozzarella salads, something that I must try to make when I have a kitchen again. It is fun to find new foods to add to my experimentation to-do list, especially delicious and simple ones.
